Korean artist Sung Soo Koo creates large-scale color photographs that seem at once familiar and strange. Shot with a large format 8”x10” camera, they are calm, flawless, perfect prints of paradox presenting a Korea where tradition and globalization seem to collide in strategic array and juxtaposition. It has been said of Sung Soo that he, “lifts the membrane formed on the outer surface of the global dream and gently places it on the surface of the photograph.”
Koo Sung Soo was born in 1970 and lives in Seoul, Korea.
His work is in the collections of Ocean Technology Seoul; Oedo-Botania, Geoje; National Museum of Contemporary Art Korea; IImin Museum of Art Seoul; Hwan Gallery; Daegu Culture Art Center; Photography Museum of Dong-gang.
