Kathy Liao

Kathy Liao (she/her) sees herself as a connector and bridge builder. Her practice as facilitator and arts administrator is to listen deeply, to remove barriers, to trust artists and cultural bearers in their knowledge and lived experiences, and support them with the tools, and resources, and peer network to thrive.
As a Taiwanese American artist, Liao looks for patterns and repetitions that weave through the immigrant family experience in her mixed media work. She is a recipient of various awards including the 2022 21c Kansas City Artadia Award, 2020 Charlotte Street Foundation Visual Artist Award, the Elizabeth Greenshield Foundation Award, and the public art commission for the new Kansas City International Airport. Formerly, Liao was Director of the Painting and Printmaking at Missouri Western State University. She was nominated “Most Influential Professor” in 2019.
