Pompeii, glass & mixed medium 92”x22.75”x5.75”

Therman Statom is internationally known for his innovative and experimental combinations of glass, painting and mixed media in exuberant site-specific installations and in human-sized works of hollow glass houses, chairs, and ladders. Statom’s playful and elegant sculptures are constructed of industrial window glass that is both the structure and transparent skin. The inside of the glass framework is inhabited by bits and pieces of blown glass, found and collected objects, and the fluid gesture of painted imagery. These secular reliquaries tell of curiosity and child like innocence, possibility and wisdom, intuition and emotion.

Statom’s work can be found in major museum collections across the US. Including:  the Detroit Institute of Arts; the Toledo Museum of Art, Toledo, OH; the High Museum of Art, Atlanta, GA; the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; the Mint Museum of Craft and Design, Charlotte, NC; the Racine Art Museum, Racine, WI; and many others.
